Sunday evening I pushed the first working Alpha to the web. Now I fixed the most critical bugs, made some improvements to the general gameplay and everything that's implemented should work (more or less 😉 ).

Let's start with a bit more formal introduction: Aether Kingdoms is a game about building up your Kingdom and teaming up to form Empires. You will fight against other Empires to take control of the continent to crown your leader as Emperor. Aether Kingdoms is a classic browser strategy game taking inspirations from different genres.

During Alpha you will have access to testing features, but be aware that these may take away from the fun of the game itself. Feel free to make a second account or more to try things out.

Release notes

The current release is Alpha 1: systems test. In this release the goal is to a) try out the game and b) test if the base systems work.

You can do quite a few things, but obviously not everything is implemented. Here's what you can do:

  • Manage your village (build buildings, train troops, produce culture, produce science)
  • Claim new tiles for additional resource production around your village when you meet population thresholds.
  • Settle new villages (requires 1500 culture for the second village).
  • Send troops to move between your own villages, reinforce yourself or allies, and attack anyone. There is no resource stealing, scouting, conquering or siege damage.
  • Send merchants to yourself or allies.
  • Start and complete research.
  • Create, join and leave Empires (aka Alliance, Guild, Clan, etc.).
  • Tier up a village to Town and later City to unlock new buildings and add specialised Districts.
  • Research new technologies to unlock more buildings, which in turn give more production, bonuses or unlock units.

Alpha 2

Once everything is stable, work will begin on Alpha 2. This will include:

  • Siege damage and conquering villages.
  • Scouting enemy villages (when sending an attack with only scouts).
  • PvE objectives spawning on the map that give rewards, instead of micro-farming players.
  • Messages.
